Reeflex Cube HQI Ballast and Radiums

We would like to share a picture of Adam Derickson's Tank showing the combination of the Reeflex Cube 250W magnetic ballast and Radiums. This combination produce such great coloration without running any suplimental light.

The Reeflex Cube magnetic ballasts for HQI lamps are an exciting mix of tried-and-true technology and innovative design. The head-turning cube housing certainly makes these ballasts stand out in a crowd but they are not just a pretty face. The advanced cooling architecture features a top mounted fan crowning 4 well ventilated walls for  unprecedented breathing room. This means that every component inside gets a generous stream of life-extending fresh air.
Life expectancy is a major consideration here and is among the reasons these ballasts were born magnetic. Of course magnetic ballasts deliver a bit more punch than their electronic cousins but that is only half of the story.
Every component of this ballast is easily accessible and replaceable by even the least mechanically inclined. This means a lifetime of high performance and minimal down-time. Instead of throwing away an electronic ballast and buying a new one, the Reeflex Cube magnetic ballast can be kept running inevitably with very little effort or expense. Maybe the best part of all is that these beauties are hand made in the USA!

* High quality components
* Advanced cooling architecture
* Strong magnetic performance
* A lifetime of serviceability
* Made in the USA
* Available in 150w (M81) and 250w (M80) HQI formats
 The German-made Radium 20000K metal halide bulb offers excellent coloration and good intensity. It is crisp-white with a strong blue tint.
It brings out the fluorescent pigments in corals nicely. Fluorescent supplementation is usually not necessary, but can be used for added intensity and to simulate dawn and dusk.

Aqua Illumination LED Lighting - Back In Stock

 We just received new shipment of both White and Blue Aqua Illumination SOL modules and components. Get yours before they are gone.

Reduced Energy

The Aqua Illuminations Cree modules are some of the most efficient lighting products on the market. Because of the lower energy consumption, an AI module will realize over a 1/3 savings when compared to the equivalent us of a low output metal halide (250W) bulb.

No Heat Increase

The AI shows less than a 1 degree water temperature increase over a 12 hour period. A low output metal halide (250W) bulb in the same configuration shows an increase of over 15 degrees. Because of this, it is unlikely that aquarists will have to use chillers when running AI modules resulting in substantial savings from equipment purchases and energy consumption.

Over 8 Times Longer Life

The AI’s modules are rated for over 50,000 hours providing for years of maintenance free and environmentally friendly use. Metal Halides require costly annual replacements due to deteriorating output and unpredictable color drift.

Built in the USA

Every AI product is made with high quality components. We assemble each unit at the AI headquarters and have been doing so since 2007. We test all critical components in-house including a PAR output, heat output, and electricity consumption test after a 24 hour burn in period for each module to ensure that each AI module is of the highest quality.

NEW - Sea Swirl 1.5" Wave Maker

Sea Swirl 1.5" Wave Maker.

The 1.5'’ Sea Swirl Model satisfies the need for an oscillating device for large aquariums to create a broad oscillating current, not linear current like our competitors at an economical price and it is very energy efficient too!

Using our customer’s request’s and needs for a higher flow product for over 4 years now, we have developed and tested the 1.5'’ SS Model with great success.

The 1.5'’ Model was designed for tanks 180 gals. and up and offers the truly smallest footprint area seen in the aquarium of only 2-1/4'’

The 1.5'’ Sea Swirl is to be used with the Low Wattage/ High Flow pumps such as ReeFlo Snapper, Dart, Barracuda and Hammerhead along with Reeflo Gold line of aquarium pumps that people use to return water to their tanks. When using the 1.5'’ model it is to be hard-plumbed only!

Also, with the optional 2'’ outlet the 1.5'’ Sea Swirl will produce exceptionally wide gentle circulation.

Two units mounted in opposite corners(front/rear) in the aquarium would cover every area of the tank with ‘’swaying’‘ motion which is seen in nature. This motion is not fast like some of the products on the market, but will produce a strong ‘’wave-crashing’‘ motion then a very calm current will follow as the Sea Swirl oscillates.
As corals grow into high current areas in the aquarium if the current is Linear the corals will tend to shed tissue and possibly even perish, grow around the linear/pulsed current or stop growing all together to avoid the straight line current. Check out the Penn State video with Dr. Sanjay Joshi on our home page! Not so with oscillating current as it is always changing from strong to calm, just like the natural current pattern in the ocean.

With our 12 years in the industry producing our smaller Sea Swirl models here in United States plus the added superior repair and customer service over this time you are assured of a quality product. To back up this statement we are giving a 2 year warranty(supplied info card must be sent in to Aquarium Currents).....One of the BEST in the Industry compared to our competitors!

Since you have a return water line into the aquarium anyway, why not oscillate it and enjoy the benefits....Nature-like current produced......Economically priced, at almost half the cost of our competition!......only 3 watts of power to operate the 1.5'’ Sea Swirl...... It IS the MOST energy efficient oscillating product on the market that flows up to 5800gph!
* Very energy efficient motor----- only 3 watts
* Totally NEW Design.....NO internal o-rings or seals. Straight through 1.5'’ pipe.
* 360 degree adjustable schedule 80 inlet fitting
* Flow rates from 3000 to 5800gph
* With optional 2'’ outlet creates the broadest oscillating current in the industry!
* Threaded outlet coupler.....NO more outlet nozzles coming off with extreme water pressure.
* Only needs 1-1/2'’ behind tank to install.
* Adjustable to your running water line by cutting the 6'’ piece of supplied black pipe or by adding a black coupler and black pipe to go deeper on closed loops.
* Supplied with Black ‘’sweep’‘ 90, 45, black coupler and black male adapter for inlet.
* Optional 2'’ sweep 90 with 1.5'’ black reducer bushing.
* Supplied black acrylic bracket works with standard glass tank frames----Perimeter Bracing or Acrylic tank cut-out areas.
* 2 Year Warranty—One of the best in the industry!

Sicce Voyager HP High Flow Water Pump Powerheads

The NEW Voyager 2800, 3200, 3600 and 4000 Pump. The New Voyager HP or High Performance series builds upon all of the same great features and technology of the models 1 through 4 but takes them to another level.
The models range from 2800 to 4000 gallons per hour and have innovations that leave them in a class by themselves. Thanks to the exclusive magnetic support, the Voyagers can be positioned anywhere: on the sides, behind the tank, and around the aquarium's corners.
The support system permits them to reach up to 180 degrees vertically and 360 degrees circulatory has endless orientation possibilities.
This unique feature allows the units to be mounted on the rear glass of the aquarium without sacrificing its directional range. The Voyager's versatility in movement and positioning makes it possible to hide them anywhere, assuring optimal performance.
The removable front ring insert allows you to regulate the water flow wide or narrow, satisfying even the most particular species needs. The units have the most durable rotor, ceramic seats, and a ceramic shaft. This, combined with the electronic engineering of the motor, assures that the pump always starts in the correct direction without vibration or noise.
The rotor and shaft of the Voyager are wear-resistant beyond compare! Mounting does not rely on suction cups or a combination of suction with magnets because in a salt water tank or in hard water they become stiff with time, compromising their hold, and causing the pump to become unstable. The exclusive magnetic support for the Voyager is long-lasting, reliable, ideal for glass up to .787 inch thick and prevents slippage, vibration, and wear on the glass. The Voyager can be used in fresh water and saltwater aquariums. Maximum inclination, flexibility, silence, and reliability - all in one unit!

Features:
* ETL and cETL listed
* 3 year warranty
* 360 degree pump rotation

Vortech MP60W ES Propeller Pump by EcoTech Marine - COMING SOON

Vortech MP60W ES Propeller Pump by EcoTech Marine.
The MP60 is engineered for tanks holding 120 to over 1,000 gallons with up to one-inch glass thickness. The MP60 uses the same award-winning technology that has made EcoTech Marine VorTech line the number one brand of pump among reef aquarium enthusiasts. Capable of pushing 5,500/gph, the MP60 offers the smallest in-tank footprint for a commercially available pump.

"The MP60 satisfies a pent-up market demand for VorTech technology in larger tanks," said Tim Marks, president of EcoTech Marine. "Prior to this launch, aquarists with tanks having pane thicknesses greater than three-quarters of an inch had very few options for high-flow solutions. We are excited to provide this much desired solution for the most discerning and diehard hobbyists. Performance and quality are always our top priorities. This addition is a natural evolution for us, and perfectly rounds out our VorTech line of products."

The MP60 was designed to create the most flow in the smallest package possible. In EcoTech Marine's quest to continually raise the bar on reef flow technology, the unit runs quiet, cool and with minimal vibration. "This is a very proud introduction for us," added Marks.

The MP60's unmatched flow and out-of-the-box multi-pump wireless communication makes it the best value on the market for larger tanks. The MP60 leverages EcoSmart driver technology, introduced earlier this year, providing unmatched versatility, controllability and customization of flow patterns.

EcoTech Marine's patented VorTech technology produces broad yet gentle flow while placing the motor outside the tank--preserving the beauty of the aquarium and enhancing the health of the tank's ecosystem.

Brightwell Aquatics Katalyst - Bioreactive Filtration Media for Nitrate and Phosphate Control in all Aquaria

Brightwell Aquatics Katalyst - Bioreactive Filtration Media for Nitrate and Phosphate Control in all Aquaria.

Bioactive filtration media, providing an ideal colonization substrate and a suitable source of organic carbon to beneficial microbes responsible for uptake of nitrate and phosphate.

Helps decrease latent organic material, and hence nitrate and phosphate concentrations, in aquarium, greatly simplifying and improving nutrient control relative to methods based solely upon using vodka or other alcohol/sugar solutions as organic carbon sources.

May be used with MicroBacter7 and/or as part of a low-nutrient approach to aquarium husbandry.

Improves water clarity through re-mineralization of latent dissolved organic compounds present in system.

Safe for use in all freshwater and marine aquarium, including planted and reef systems.

Made in the USA. Sold by mass, not volume; 1 g = ~1.6 ml of competing media.

Technical Background:
In all aquaria, it is prudent to establish a stable nutrient budget in which the rate of nutrient export is not greatly exceeded by the rate of nutrient input, and vice versa; in the proper physical and chemical conditions, the former imbalance leads to increased presence of nuisance organisms such as filamentous algae and cyanobacteria, whereas the latter leads to malnourished aquarium inhabitants. The nutrients of greatest concern to most aquarists are nitrate and phosphate, both of which require active removal and/or re mineralization in aquatic habitats to ensure that they do not exceed concentrations that are deemed as safe for the ornamental organisms inhabiting those systems, or that would otherwise impact the appearance of the system, itself. KATALYST provides a static surface for colonization by beneficial microbes, while at the same time providing them with a source of organic carbon, which is required for the uptake of nitrogen and phosphorus compounds (including nitrate and phosphate, respectively).

In this fashion, KATALYST improves nutrient-uptake efficiency relative to systems employing only live rock, live sand, and/or inert plastic material as a substrate for microbial colonization. The colonization of KATALYST with the appropriate types of nutrient-remineralizing microorganisms, such as those found in MICROBACTER7, serves to deplete existing concentrations of dissolved organic material from the aquarium. Instructions and Guidelines: KATALYST should be housed in a media reactor, canister filter, or fluidized-bed reactor with a means of controlling water flow through the media bed, and with a pre-filter in place to restrict particulate material from entering the reaction vessel. Moderate water flow will discourage the accumulation of latent organic material in the media bed, itself, and will improve overall results.

Dissolved oxygen concentration and/or pH in the aquarium may temporarily decrease when new media is added; ensure that adequate aeration of water is employed at all times when using KATALYST, and monitor and adjust pH as necessary.
In marine aquaria, maintain operation of protein skimmer at all times to ensure that adequate degassing and oxygenation of water is taking place. Systems with [NO3-] and/or [PO43-] <5 ppm and 0.02 ppm, respectively: employ ~1 g of KATALYST per 2 US-gallons of water in aquarium system. Add 1 ml MICROBACTER7 per 20 US-gallons in system daily for first 4 weeks to seed KATALYST media.
In systems with elevated concentrations of these nutrients, employ up to twice the afore-mentioned mass and volume, respectively, of KATALYST and MICROBACTER7. Allow at least 4 weeks for media to become adequately colonized for significant changes in nutrient concentrations to become evident.
When nutrient concentrations drop below the target values (user-defined), decrease the daily dosage of MICROBACTER7 to maintain these levels. Replenish KATALYST media as necessary to counter gradual dissolution (on the order of months) that is the result of microbial consumption of the material. The rate of media deterioration is largely related to the nutrient load in the system: the higher the rate of nutrient input, the more quickly the media will be consumed by microbes.

ZeoVit Coral Vitalizer - Coral Food

ENHANCE YOUR CORALS: ZeoVit Coral Vitalizer and the corals you never knew you had

  “Miracle juice? Exaggeration? Absolutely not!”

Unlike many coral foods, Zeovit Coral Vitalizer interacts with your corals by directly satisfying their carbon demands and reducing the need to harbor massive densities of tissue zooxanthellae (symbiotic algae). Resulting is an increased expression of true tissue coloration. Additionally, Coral Vitalizer puts many hard corals into a continuous “feed mode”, even during the daylight hours. Ever see Acropora showing off sweeper tentacles all day long? Perhaps you would like to; Coral Vitalizer can help.
The unique qualities of Coral Vitalizer set it apart from an ever increasing assortment of generic coral foods, providing nearly instant and unmistakable gains for you, the discerning aquarist. Coral Vitalizer contains no Phosphates or Nitrates.

Use Coral Vitalizer to:

Feed all corals without polluting the water
Reduce the reliance of corals on tissue browning zooxanthellae for their energy needs
Encouraging nighttime polyp extension even during daylight hours
Increase growth and deepen colors and contrasts
Aids with stress reduction of newly added corals

Dose: 1 drop | 25 gallons per day

Upgradeable Firmware with USB Adapter Updating the RKL via USB when new software features are released is easy and straight forward. Better yet it's included at no extra cost!

Night Mode - Independently Programmable Night mode can be configured independent of your light configuration so that moonlights and pumps can be adjusted in the evening times.

Wavemaker There are 2 wavemaker cycles in the ReefKeeper Lite, cycles A and b. When a channel is designated as a pump you can select a wavemaker cycle A or B. The two alternate opposite each other to simulate wave motion. Under the wavemaker setup you choose how long you want each cycle time to be by dialing an A/B cycle time. During night mode the cycle can be turned off to give a calming affect.

Standby/Feed mode
Just as in all Digital Aquatics ReefKeeper controllers, the RKL has a Standby mode that can be programmed from 1 to 59 minutes. When in "Standby" ReefKeeper Lite turns off the powerheads and sump and skimmer pumps that are programmed to be off during standby mode for the set time or until "Standby" is backed out of.

Standby/Feed mode helps reduce the bio load on the tank by maximizing the food eaten by fish and corrals and minimizing waste. Food will not get whisked away into the sump filter and to dead spots in your tank. Standby mode is also useful when it is time to perform maintenance on your tank and you need all the water pumps to be temporarily turned off.

Head unit can be mounted in a number of ways for the custom professional look
The display unit has several mounting options to accommodate different configurations. It can be mounted flush to your hood/cabinet for a sleek look by cutting out a rectangle. It can also be mounted easily to any flat surface with or without the mounting tabs.

Splash proof face plate
The front of the remote display has a custom faceplate so that a little water on it doesn't cause any problems. The unit menu system can be navigated with wet hands without any problems.

Internal backup battery for clock and settings The internal battery will last for years keeping the time and settings of the ReefKeeper Lite. A power outage will not require the adjustments that traditional light timers need after the power is restored.

Simple menu system for easy configuration
The menu system is an easy-to-use interface that allows you to setup the ReefKeeper Lite to meet your specific needs. The 5 buttons under the display are used to navigate through the menu for setting up which features you want to link to which outlets and other setup.

ZEOVIT - Coral Snow

NEED CLARITY? Coral Snow is the liquid filter media for crystal clear water “Unsightly water discoloration has met its match”

Coral Snow naturally addresses several issues that plague modern reef tanks – yellow or hazy water, stubborn nutrient accumulations and red slime algae.

After an initial cloudiness, Coral Snow leaves the water column crystal clear, almost luminous; your fish and corals will appear as though they’re suspended in thin air! Coral Snow is non-toxic and will not negatively impact livestock if accidentally overdosed.
Coral Snow can also be used as a nutrient carrier to increase direct absorption of vitamins, minerals and elements by the coral. As a highly absorbent Bio-Clay, Coral Snow will sponge up any additives that are mixed with it prior to dosing. Corals have a natural tendency to trap these clay particles in their mucous to be consumed. This is a much more effective method of delivering these elements to the coral than traditional dosing to the water column.

Use Coral Snow to:

Neutralize undesirable acids
Incrementally address the baseline problems that cause Red Slime algae
Promote incredible water clarity overnight
Entice additional polyp extension from corals
As a vitamin or element carrier for direct absorption

Dose: 1 mL | 25 gallons per day
Available in 250, 500 and 1000 mL

Vertex Pro Bio Pellets

Biopellets—A New Stage in Reefkeeping.
What if one product could single
handedly make maintaining a
saltwater tank as easy as
freshwater? What if that same
product made eliminating nuisance
algae and keeping crystal clear
water effortless for even the most
inexperienced reef keepers? And
what if that same product was
affordable enough for every single
saltwater enthusiast in the industry?

That product would revolutionize reefkeeping. Say hello to Vertex Biopellets. Biopellets will change the way you
keep your saltwater aquarium forever—and Vertex makes the highest quality, most cost effective biopellets available.

How Biopellets Work:
Biopellets are composed of biodegradable polymers designed for use in a fluidized filter. The
pellets promote the growth of aerobic and anaerobic nitrifying bacteria which use carbon
from the pellets to consume nitrate and phosphate. This process dramatically eliminates
unsightly algae and cyanobacteria (red slime) while increasing the overall health and vigor of
the tank’s inhabitants.
The surplus bacteria generated by the biopellets are then consumed by sponges and corals or
removed by a protein skimmer. Within a few weeks, without any routine dosing, even the
most novice reefkeeper is left with a crystal clear tank.

Vertex Biopellets – in 500mL and 1000mL sizes.
Less Time. Less Work. More Results.

Frequently Asked Questions:

1)What quantity of biopellets will I need for my tank? 500ml per 100 gallons of net water volume.

2) How can I tell if I have overfilled my reactor? Put no more pellets in your reactor than can be easily fluidized (without clumping)

3) Can I overdose or harm my tank from excessive biopellet use? No, though adherence to the previous note is strongly encouraged.

4) Are there any special considerations for where I should put my reactor in the sump? Make sure the effluent of the reactor exits into a high flow zone of the sump to ensure the bacteria is dispersed and that the water is properly re-oxygenated before entering the main system.

5) Are there any benefits to using a Vertex media reactor with the biopellets? Yes. The Vertex reactor is specifically designed with a 1/2” input-output. This contrasts with most reactors having a 3/8” input-output. The difference is very important in the capacity for the reactor to readily fluidize the media—the larger input-output makes the Vertex reactor much more effective for this purpose.

6) How often must the biopellets be replaced? Depending on your system, you can expect to replace your biopellets every 4 to 6 months.

7)How much flow will it take to fluidize 1000ml of pellets in a Vertex UF 15/ 20 media reactor? There are many variables involved with this question which must be considered. It is important to note the pressure rating of your pump, whether it’s a passive or direct feed, etc. That said, the reactors will handle 150 to 500gph. A rough estimate is about 100-250 gallons per hour for every 500ml.

CoralRX PRO Coral Dip

Coral Rx was developed in 2006 for two purposes: to treat corals suffering with parasites, and as a prophylactic measure to promote healthy corals before parasites or bacterial infections become harmful. Coral Rx is tough on parasites, yet gentle on your coral (contains no iodine or oxidizers) allowing you to be proactive in protecting your investment.

Independently Tested
Coral Rx was independently tested by Andrew Lynford, M.S. in Biology from Hofstra University. This investigation attempted to quantify the efficacy of three chemical flatworm controls: Flatworm Exit, Coral Rx, and Povidone. His research is available in a featured article published in Advanced Aquarist, April 2009. Below are excerpts of his findings:.

* Coral Rx was the most effective treatment…
* Coral Rx performed well as a coral dip, and it would be advantageous for coral aquaculturists, wholesalers, retailers, aquariums, and hobbyists to use this product when quarantining newly purchased corals.
* Chemical treatments are utilized as a preventative protocol used to eradicate flatworms before they are introduced into an aquarium. These chemical treatments are referred to as a coral dips.
* Quarantining corals and live rock with coral dips is the best way to deal with marine flatworms because it prevents their introduction, and circumvents the problems associated with convolutrilobid toxin release.
* Harvesting coral reef taxa (species) to replace livestock lost through convolutriloba toxin release is environmentally costly, and should be prevented by using coral dips.

Coral Rx – a different type of coral dip
Coral Rx was designed by keeping the health of your coral in mind. Our proprietary blend of natural ingredients contains no iodine, which is known to stain corals, nor does Coral Rx contain oxidizers whose by-products are often toxic and continue to react with surrounding tissue. Independent research also questions the effectiveness of iodine treatments. Please take a look at this feature article in Advanced Aquarist, April 2009.

Coral Rx removes many of the “hard to deal with” coral pests like Acropora-Eating Flatworms, Montipora-Eating Nudibranchs and Zoanthid-Eating Nudibranchs.

Promotes Coral Health – Coral Rx is hard on parasites yet easy on corals making it a perfect prophylactic treatment protecting your coral investment. Whether or not you quarantine your corals before putting them in your aquarium, a dip in Coral Rx decreases the probability of adding a parasite into your aquarium eco-system.

Usage

Coral Rx can be used in treating many types of live corals; soft, LPS and SPS. Coral Rx should be used in treating corals that have parasites or other bacterial infections. Additionally, it should be used as a prophylactic treatment before bringing live coral into your aquarium.

Coral Rx is effective in removing the following parasites:

- Acropora Eating Flatworms (AEFW)
- Montipora Eating Nudibranchs
- Bristleworms
- Zoanthid Eating Spiders
- Red Flatworms

Also aids in the treatment of:
- Filamentous Hair Algae
- Rapid Tissue Necrosis (RTN)
- Slow Tissue Necrosis (STN)
- Bacterial Infections & More

Coral Rx should not be used on fish, shrimp, crabs, snails, clams or other invertebrates. We have not tested CoralRx's effectiveness on Acropora Red Bugs.

Directions
* Dosage per gallon of dip
- Coral Rx Pro: 30 drops

* Shake bottle of Coral Rx. Add dosage as stated above based on product purchased to 1 gallon (3.8 liters) of saltwater from aquarium. Mix well. Using a small power head, keep the water moving and place coral in the coral dip. If you do not have a power head, gently shake coral in the coral dip. Keep coral in the coral dip for 5 – 10 minutes. After 5 – 10 minutes, remove coral and discard the coral dip. Do not reuse the coral dip as parasite may release toxins. Rinse coral with clean saltwater and return to aquarium. Do not add Coral Rx directly into aquarium.

Ingredients: Distilled Water, Proprietary Blend of Natural Extracts. (Coral Rx Industrial contains no distilled water) http://www.aquacave.com/detail.aspx?ID=3040
